Salary sacrifice ?

Sir Michael Lyons has said that the BBC Executive has agreed to work one month without pay for each of the next two years. This means that, taken on his total benefit package, Mark Thompson will receive £764,500 pa rather than £834,000. If the deal is just on basic salary, he takes home £608,666 pa rather than £664,000. My eyes water just typing out the figures.

There has to be a better way of sorting this out to the satisfaction of the licence-fee payer - and the rest of the workers at the BBC.
