Regional radio

Whilst Jeremy Hunt (egged on by Roger Parry) believes the UK is ready for city tv stations, Heart is taking advantage of weaker OFCOM regulation, consolidating 33 radio stations across England and Wales down to 15. Going before the end of the year are Heart operations in Bangor, Barnstaple, Bedford, Birkenhead, Bournemouth, Cambridge, Colchester, Crawley, Ipswich, Northampton, Oxford, Plymouth, South Hams, Taunton and Torquay. And from the end of the month, Gold stations, which had the fig-leaf of a locally linked 4 hour show, lose that entirely. From Radio Today.

Joey Deacon on Digital Spy has the full list of 15 "centres of excellence", and what they'll replace.
