The House of Lords' Communication Committee's interrogation of the BBC's John Tate and Peter Salmon has recently become available online. From eleven minutes in, you can watch Lord Gordon of Strathblane - a serious radio player for 30 years - slowly challenge Mr Tate (former research officer for Bill Cash's European Foundation, previous member of Conservative Friends of Gibraltar, McKinsey alumni, part-author of Tory manifesto in 2005, and a guest speaker at the Bow Group last year) about the closure of 6Music.
The dilemma is plain. Mr Tate's worried it might be too successful in the long term - and the growth graph (borrowed from MediaUK) below suggests he might be right; but it's not apparently successful enough when we "have to prioritise scarce resources". There's no mention of the 2 Extra solution.
