I'm free

Paid Content offers full details of a recent pitch to investors by DMGT, owners of The Mail, The Metro and Loot, which explains why The Mail Online will be staying "free".

The trend in digital ad-only sales is up 131% year-on-year; the site's users are "a younger, richer version of the people who read our papers"; and Mail Online "is now big enough to make the advertising model pay".

The Mail recorded 2,265,623 "unique browsers" in the latest ABCe online monthly stats, maintaining the top spot amongst UK newspaper sites, following a Lib Dem-style surge when new methodology was used at the beginning of the year.
