The campaign to save the Asian Network hasn't got quite as much media attention as 6Music, but it's growing - at 1400 today, Monday, there were 1,157 members of the Facebook page Keep the Asian Network, 7,178 members of the slightly more expressive Save the BBC Asian Network !!! page, and 16,142 signatures on the petition.
Also coming forward are some star supporters to rival Richard Bacon and Phil Jupitus for 6Music. Jay Sean, currently on tour in the States, has tweeted twice "I can't believe that they're trying to shut down the BBC Asian network. This is crazy we have no mainstream platforms as it is. Messed up"
"My first ever interview was on the BBC Asian network 7yrs ago. they've always repped me. Just know I got ur bak if u need me Asian network".
Drivetime host Bobby Friction is quite angry "Make no mistake, this is an attack on us British people from an establishment that hates the word diversity, & listens to tabloids b4 people"
Morning host Sonia Deol "If true what a sad night this is for our language, culture, music, identity. What an utterly tragic loss. My thoughts are with our audience"
And UK actress Sofia Hayat has blogged her support.
