The Highline opens
Take a disused high-level railway line, (once used for delivering cattle), add the determination of Joshua David, a writer, and Robert Hammond, a painter, from the local community in New York; add the clout of Mayor Bloomberg and some rich sponsors; mix with designers Field Operations and Diller Scofidio & Renfro - and you get the beginning of a landscaped walkway along the Hudson River. Neat. From the New York Times.
