Remember all that stuff from opponents of the BBC's local-video-by-broadband proposal, now dropped at the behest of Ofcom and the BBC Trust ? Where they said the BBC would have an unfair impact on local papers and their future ambitions ?
Now that esteemed group GMG, is closing all local offices for weekly papers in its Manchester Evening News group. The papers survive, but will be produced from MEN offices in Scott Place in the centre of the city. Offices go in Accrington, Ashton, Macclesfield, Oldham, Rochdale, Rossendale, Wilmslow - and that cutting-edge media city, Salford.
The Press Gazette says 150 jobs go overall - 78 of them journalists. And of those 78, 39 are from the current 90 posts in the Manchester Evening News.
