Musical (and other) chairs

I'd hoped to be quicker with the rumour that Matthew Bannister is in the frame for Controller BBC Radio 2, but the Times has beaten me to publication. My sources suggest it's down to two for a final interview and, technically, neither are from inside - though Matthew has a contract to present Outlook on the World Service.

I'll probably be beaten on new editors for R4's World At One and PM teams - the jobs split again, now Peter Rippon is off to Newsnight - but you can bet against outsiders, unless you count applicants from 5Live.

And on the vacancy at BBC World Service, the leading candidates look set to be Jerry Timmins, from the Bush House languages stable, and multimedia agent-of-change Peter Horrocks, from News, who, we're guessing, would like a little more limelight than provided in his current role under Helen Boaden.
