Sir Michael Grade tells today's Telegraph that an anouncement on an outline agreement about ITV sharing the BBC's regional news resources is imminent. "ITV and the BBC would share facilities, buildings and technology across the UK – making commercially funded regional news much more cost efficient. But they would still produce separate, competitive news services"
I can see how you can save money on crews by pooling much more film and video - but it's harder to see savings on facilities, edit suites, studios and galleries (and their support staff) between 6pm and 7pm, when the key output is scheduled by both parties - unless there are major changes to schedules, or someone pre-records, which is anathema to news. So who pays when a new studio has to be built ?
