Eyeless

Mark Thompson faced John Humphrys across the Today studio table this morning for an uncomfortable 11.54 minutes on his/the BBC's refusal to broadcast the joint charities' appeal for Gaza today.

He seemed poorly briefed, and on the back foot. If the BBC has in the past refused to carry appeals, he should have given some examples and the reasoning behind them. If the BBC is worried that the message - either in words or pictures - may be contentious, then why doesn't it make a decision when it has seen the completed appeal ? (The BBC reviews Party Political Broadcasts in the same way). Is his view that it is impossible to create an appeal that is uncontroversial in current circumstances - or is this a block on all "Middle East/Israel" appeals ?

This has further to go...
