Are there any similarities between Nicky Campbell and Christiano Ronaldo ?
Most people had assumed that Nicky would stay in London when 5Live moves to Salford, to keep the tv work he loves - quiz shows, debates - flowing. In today's Guardian, he says he's looking for a contract that will keep him with 5Live in Salford, and intends to work there Monday to Friday.
Issues - I don't think the BBC is handing out three or four year contracts at the moment, with scrutiny on presenter salaries likely to continue post Ross/Brand. The BBC in general doesn't like negotiating through newspapers. Nicky says he hasn't yet talked to his Controller, or, indeed, his co-presenter Shelagh Fogarty about their plans - so the interview seems a little presumptious. So there's a little Ronaldo feel to all this. However, Nicky is 47.
Nicky is taking over the 0900 phone-in - will he improve the figures for that slot, and isn't that the time to make a judgement ?
