The Ofcom report assessing the possible impact of the BBC's proposed local broadband video service on other existing and potential providers is 218 pages of what look like serious calculations, based largely on guesses. Guesses which have probably kicked the proposal into touch.
There's plenty of jargon - attitudinal linear regression model results, restricted forward logistic regression model results, mobile TV monthly ARPU for counterfactual scenarios - and graphs to treasure.
But the principal driver of all calculations is a survey of 2,373 people who were " presented with a video clip illustrating and explaining the service and then asked whether they would use it". In response, 47% of people with broadband said they would definitely or probably use the service. So where's the clip, so that we can all judge ?
