For new readers, a little flesh on the fine bones of Dan Roan, newly-anointed BBC Sports Editor. Dan, whose dad runs a high-end commercial photography studio in Northampton, went to fee-paying day school Wellingborough (Garne's House), and then to Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. With a 2.1 in social and political science under his belt, he became a BBC news trainee in 1998.
Reporting jobs in the regions and in business followed, but then he left for Sky Sports News in 2003. In 2008 he threw in his hand with Setanta Sport as Chief Football Reporter, and it's said Sky asked for their suit back. Setanta flopped and our pitchside reporter freelanced before formally rejoining Auntie in Sports News in 2010.
He's set up home in Hale, handy for the Salford Sports HQ. His favourite bar is Mort Subite in Altrincham, which occupies the former basement morgue of Altrincham Hospital. Amongst their extensive range of draught and bottled beers is Brewdog Hardcore IPA from Scotland, described as "an extreme beer rollercoaster for freaks, gypsies and international chess superstars". To keep in peak physical shape, Dan runs free on weekend mornings in the deer park of National Trust property Dunham Massey.
