Cake slicing

Still on the hunt for Royal Wedding viewing statistics, grim news for Richard Desmond's Channel 5.  At 11.00am on Friday, just 69,000 viewers were still with Matthew Wright for the tail of his show.  At 11.15am, 27,000 were enjoying Randolph Scott in Santa Fe.

In Canada, 38% of the population tuned in for some part of Friday's coverage - giving the BBC estimate of 2 billion a welcome 12 million.

Mark Byford, in what seems to be a statement, rather than an answer to a question, says "The huge audience of so many millions who shared the day with the BBC is a testament to all those involved in producing such high-quality and distinctive coverage, and proves once again that the BBC is the broadcaster of choice for audiences during big national events." Will he be quizzed on the final figure, say, by someone as fearless as BBC correspondent (ex arts and media) Nick Higham, who tweeted on Saturday thus...

Attempts to stop BBC reporting 2bn global tv aud have failed. As ex-media corr I know it can't be true. Colleagues won't listen
