All mates together

Ian Edmondson started life in journalism as a freelance, then joined the News of the World as a general reporter. In 1998, he was promoted to crime correspondent.

In 2000, he moved to the Sunday People, where he worked under editor Neil Wallis, news editor David Wooding, and on the desk alongside James Weatherup.  He rose to be an assistant editor, before being brought back to Wapping in 2004 by News of the World Editor Andy Coulson (who had made Neil Wallis his deputy the year before). James Weatherup was also brought across.  Ian was then promoted by Andy, after James had a go at being News Editor. Ian was the fourth news editor under the Coulson regime.

Ian's most recent bylined work includes a report on a visit to the Santa Claus theme park in Lapland, in October 2008, and the story of a family holiday in Boa Vista, Cape Verde Islands, in September last year.  Ian went with his wife and three kids, and landed, he says, a 25kg tuna.

The last internal investigation by the News of The World was carried out by Lawrence Abramson of Harbottle & Lewis, who was given all internal emails between Clive Goodman, Andy Coulson, Stuart Kuttner, Ian Edmondson, Neil Wallis and Jules Stenson - and found nothing untoward.
