Moving the furniture at MediacityUK
Peel Media want to move the giant screen that was at the heart of most of the visualisations of a completed MediacityUK, Salford Quays. They now argue that its first position blocked views in and out of the Studio block, and provide no shade for the screen. The new position is described as "left of the Studio block, when viewed from the piazza". In the absence of a drawing, this would seem to put it in front of the BBC buildings.
It's undoubtedly smaller than the original planning application. It'll be an LED screen, on two large 5.5m posts, held by a structure 12.4m by 6.4m - again there's no measurement offered for the actual screen size. Peel say it'll work well in daylight, and will carry news, ads and other material visible for an audience 10m to 50m away. They say temporary screens would have to be erected for bigger events.
This is all rather odd - the whole orientation of the piazza was designed to place big crowds in front of the screen for major events. Peel also want to unlock the condition that says the screen must be operational before the studios are up and running.
