Smaller Vision ?

It feels rather inevitable that Alan Yentob will lose his salary as BBC Creative Director in the Thom(p)son Twins cull, as the Mail suggests.  He's been in this Minister-Without-Portfolio sort of role since 2004.  His current salary is £168k, which, up until this year, has been topped up with £15k towards his pension.  Of course, he takes home more for presenting Imagine, which I suspect he hopes to continue.  It is possible (and said to be true by some) that at 63, he's already drawing some of his pension, which he's entitled to do.  He's been on better behaviour on the expenses front.  In the last reported quarter, there were claims for just 5 lunches/drinks and 3 taxis.

What's more interesting is the speculation around the future of Jana Bennett, No 3 in the pay league after Thompson and Bennett.  She's Director of Vision.  Her total package last year was worth £515k - but she had a huge pension top-up of £103k, so her basic was a mere £412k.  It's hard to see how she might be made redundant - it's the old Managing Director, Television job - especially when there's a vacancy as Controller BBC1.  The rumours of a move to BBC Worldwide are a puzzle - would John Smith take her on at that sort of salary ?   Bennett also has ambition, and like too many, believes she could be a DG after Thommo. However unlikely that may be, a move to selling rather than making programmes wouldn't be part of that plan.

Is Thommo bold enough to re-structure his most expensive unit, Vision, from the outside ?

1015am update: Sensitive souls in Vision are puzzled by a session at the upcoming Promax Conference, which pairs David Abraham, from tv station Channel 4, with Tim Davie, the BBC's current Director of Audio & Music.
