Meanwhile in Germany

The Germans are further down the line than us.  They are in the process of implementing a new, public service broadcasting 'treaty', in which ARD and ZDF will jointly operate some new or modified linear channels, and drop others altogether - with a view to more delivery of programmes on demand.

Going soon are ARD-alpha, which currently broadcasts educational programmes including science, religion, music, philosophy, literature, language learning, art and culture; Tagesschau24, ARD's news channel, with some culture, sports and science shows; and ONE, largely entertainment repeats from other ARD channels.

Incoming, jointly from ARD and ZDF - 'phoenix' - a news and information service combining ARD aktuell, ZDFheute, parliamentary and event coverage, and accompanying discussion formats; 'neo', a channel for 'young adults'; 'info' - a shared documentary channel.

Do you think this lunchtime's BBC offering will be as radical ?
