Congratulations to Lindsay McIntosh (c43, Aberdeen Grammar and Law, Edinburgh University) joining the BBC as Executive News Editor, steering the hacks who bring you national news. She joins from The Sunday Times, where she's been Head of News for the last four years.
She saw a law degree as a useful entry point to journalism, but then couldn't afford to take the post-graduate journalism course at City, as intended. But work experience at the Aberdeen Press and Journal led to the offer of a Trinity Mirror qualification. Rising through reporting ranks, she's covered the Scottish end of the bank crisis, the hunt for Raoul Moat, the Olympic Torch's journey round the north of England, got shelled in Camp Bastion, and, as The Times' political editor in Scotland, covered the referendum campaign of 2014. In 2017 came the move to London, first with The Times as Assistant/Deputy News Editor.
Pastimes include surfing, originally with wetsuits in the North Sea, but more recently, she found time for a week in Costa Rica "in the dog days of the election campaign" of June/July 2024, providing a lengthy feature for the Sunday Times.
