Whilst the NAO has a pop at the World Service for undercooked risk assessments (see previous post) the biggest outstanding risk remains the bid by 'News' to conquer the USA, in search of subscriptions. That risk has more than doubled; imagine what might happen if Trump found out the number of BBC employees in Washington.
Yet it goes on; today BBC News is advertising for a News Editor, based in Washington: "This role is pivotal in growing our North American audience and redefining how digital and linear news intersect. We seek a seasoned journalist with strong leadership skills and deep expertise in U.S. politics."
The job is billed as a 'local hire', on a minimum of $160k a year.
It looks like UK viewers of the BBC News Channel will have to suffer two full hours of 'news programmes' focussed on an American audience every weekday evening for some time.
