In a rather left-field move, BBC Sport has bought Bundesliga tv rights for the next two seasons, starting with Friday's meeting between Bayern and Leipzig. One game will be shown live across the BBC Sport website, app and on BBC iPlayer every Friday until 2027.
There are just five English players in the German top flight this season: Harry Kane, Jobe Bellingham, Jarell Quansah, Ricky Jade-Jones and Oladapo Afolayan. Scotland provides Oliver Burke and Scott Banks. Scott Fin is from Wales.
I'm slightly puzzled as to how this fits in with BBC public service values/missions, etc. Live sport from anywhere at any cost ?
Football isn't just about watching plucky Brits. Thankfully we've moved on from the days when even European club finals were only shown if English teams were playing.
