Anjali on board

Perhaps Anjali Kapoor had been cogitating on her own recent session at a journalism conference in Singapore: "Leadership Coaching Conversations: Empowering Mid-Career Managers in the Digital Media Space".

She has now emerged on Deborah Turness' News Board, as Director for BBC News AI, Innovation and Growth.  In this role, she also gets custody of the BBC Weather contract, out for tender again this year.

It looks like her entry to journalism was on the Gazette, the student newspaper of Western University on London, Ontario, where she was known as 'the smiley Anjali Kapoor'.  She worked for Trasnscontinental Media, Rogers and Microsoft Canada, before joining Yahoo! Canada, which she says "at the time was a search engine with seven headlines on their home page". A job at The Global and Mail followed, then her first posting to Singapore. There she worked for Bloomberg Asia and Meta Asia, before consultancy work for the past eighteen months.

Husband is Robert Sawatzky, Editorial Director, Asia at Haymarket Media Group, also based in Singapore.  It looks like they met doing a journalism course at King's College, London. Anjali is an 'ice hockey mom' to two.

If 'congrats' on Linkedin is related to ability, the BBC has hired a star, with over 400 messages of support for Anjali's appointment. Director of Transformation Phil Harrold is 'thrilled'.
