Channel 4 rightly holds a cherished place in British life and I want that to remain the case. I have come to the conclusion that government ownership is holding Channel 4 back from competing against streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon. 1/3

Proceeds from C4 sale will be invested in left behind areas investing in indies and creative skills desperately needed in our rapidly growing creative industries. We made more films here in last Q 2021 than Hollywood, many more studios opening. Funding creative skills is key.

Channel 4 has a valuation of about 1% of that of @netflix. If it wants to grow and compete globally it will need access to capital. Taxpayers can not be asked to provide risk capital. It will continue flat-lining as a small player if it stays in state hands.

Ch4 news is an extension of the guardian newsroom , a bunch of trendy Oxford educated lefties with less neutrality than the BBC ! We are engaged in a cultural war where the right win elections & the left control tv media. It needs a bullet in the back of the head pronto ! https://t.co/nv6irsKPGU

Channel 4’s supporters said it had emerged from the pandemic in a good position and was on course to post record revenues of more than £1 billion for last year. Right, so what are you so afraid of? If Channel 4 is profitable and successful it’ll do just fine without the taxpayer.

If C4 News is any indication with its suffocating metropolitan Wokism then I’m all for kicking up the dust https://t.co/vR8ex3yUdO

The left are so triggered about the sale of Channel 4 because over the past couple of decades it has morphed from what it was meant to have been under Thatcher and become a blatantly left-wing broadcaster. pic.twitter.com/nsauThStDY

When other governments own TV stations, we sniffily call them “state broadcasters”. Yet here, we cling to the bizarre belief that working for the government somehow makes people neutral.

Welcome this👍 If C4 wants to compete in the modern market, it needs to be able to invest and grow. It can't do that unless it is free from the State. Taxpayers can't fund that. So it needs to be a private business. No need for state involvement any more! https://t.co/5zc8Zyhg4z

The privatisation of Channel 4 is a great opportunity for the company to thrive in a global marketplace.

I certainly won’t be signing any petitions against it.
