Not enough

The BBC's World Service faces cuts of 130 posts, in the UK and abroad, to save £6m.  Global Director Jonathan Munro says "The government contribution of £137m for 2025/26 to the World Service is welcome, but isn’t enough to close the gap caused by the freeze in our licence fee income, materially significant global inflation, and the need for tech and digital upkeep. Like the rest of the BBC, the World Service faces significant financial pressures and must contribute to our overall savings targets."

63 posts are currently vacant; the management hope the remainder will be found through volunteers for redundancy.
