Part of the management rationale for ending HardTalk and Click was that viewers of the BBC News channel preferred 'news', over back-half-hour programmes.
Now it seems that won't necessarily apply at weekends - read this, from a job advert for Deputy Editor, Streaming:
Our On Demand team commissions and produces a range of mid to long form news content, made for iPlayer first but are also available to run on our linear channels, including the News Channel. From April 2025, the On Demand team will be responsible for the back half hours that run on the Channel at weekends. Working with the News Editor for On Demand, the Deputy Editor will play a key role in managing the relationship between the Channel and other teams to ensure smooth operations, while also signing off On Demand content when required.
