That nice Lisa Nandy has reverted to the convention of adjusting the licence fee by the average monthly rate of inflation for the year up to the end of September. The Conservatives opted for a lower, single monthly inflation rate last year, leaving the BBC with a rise of 6.6%, when they had anticipated the annual rate of 9%.
Ms Nandy has used a figure of 2.96%. However the monthly rate of CPI is back up to 3.2% in October. £5 extra delivers the BBC some £119m, if the number of licence fees in force remains unchanged from March this year.
