Is the changing of the guard keeping Today audiences strong, or stronger ? Amol Rajan joined the presentation line-up in May 2021; the first post-covid figures we have, from later that year, show a weekly reach of 6.5m. Today's latest quarterly figure: 5.5m.
The combined weekly reach of BBC Local Radio in England is lower - down year-on-year from 5.5m to 4.9m. There's some suggestion that the combined afternoon and evening shows have 'stabilised', but the truth is, once you're lost from a list of 'favourites', the whole station/s suffer.
Post-census, there's an increase in available audience to share out, so some stations will be pleased. Radio 3, with Sam Jackson's first schedule changes, is up 7.6% in weekly reach, year on year. Radio 5Live is up 6.4%. Radio 1 is up 5.6%.
Radio Cymru is up 10%; Radio Wales is up 4.4%; Radio Scotland is down 10%.
