Departing BBC Global News boss Liliane Landor says the speed of shifting from linear tv and radio to 'digital' at the World Service has been too fast, and is losing women listeners.
Talking to the in-house "Over to You" on the World Service in English. “When you go digital, you lose women audiences because they do not have the tools or the money for the data. Who owns mobile phones, laptops and tablets? Who can afford to get the data? It is mostly men, and our women audiences are mostly on linear platforms, on TV and on radio."
"The cuts have impacted the reach and the breadth of our services and I’m concerned about the operational capability of the World Service if additional cuts continue to weaken it.”
“We’ve cut radio practically everywhere other than in regions of need. We did it too quickly. I would have liked to have taken a bit more time to move more seamlessly from radio to digital.”
