When is a "news alert" about "news", or about a news nugget from a forthcoming programme on iPlayer or Sounds ? Perhaps even designed to drive up 'hits' ?
It seems the BBC mandarins may have noted some concerns. A minute from the January meeting of the BBC Board's Editorial Guidelines and Standards Committee says "The Committee requested that an assessment of news alerts should be included in the next tranch [I think we prefer 'tranche' now - Ed] of work."
And while they were at it, "The Committee requested an update on the implementation of the social media
guidance and a briefing on the application of editorial standards to the BBC’s Tik Tok content."
