The new web of titles that BBC Studios are weaving in the USA make it difficult to understand relationships and hierarchies.
Today, we get the new role of General Manager, Digital News, to be based in New York, required to "provide leadership, set the programming strategy, manage the day-to-day editorial operations, and deliver the business results of BBC Studios’ digital news products."
"The General Manager Digital News has responsibility for the running of BBC Studios digital news services, staff management, strategy, and stakeholder relationships."
Perhaps the salary can give us a clue as to where this stands in the pecking order. It's forecast at $350k-$450k. At the bottom end, that's £278k p.a. The BBC's Digital Director of BBC News Naja Nielsen's salary for 2023 was reported somewhere between £205,000-209,999.
