Premium ?

If you want to read online 'BBC News' abroad, you now need the 'bbc' app or 'bbc.com' website.

The change, we're told, is to "offer a new contemporary look and more BBC content for digital audiences outside of the UK, alongside enhanced advertising capabilities.".

It's a triumph, of course. Tara Maitra, Chief Commercial Officer, BBC Global Media & Streaming, BBC Studios: “These new digital products deliver an experience as premium as our news and storytelling".  Naja Nielsen, Digital Director for BBC News: "As we expand and develop our global digital newsroom, I am thrilled our new global app and website will provide an excellent experience and much better showcase our world-beating journalism”.

One early adopter is not so sure. Bernie, US, writes on Trustpilot:

What a ghastly and awful makeover to the BBC international website. Their advertising was and remains poor. Their News coverage is now bizarre, boring, repetitive and facile. It was always USA-centred but is now almost wholly US-themed. From news, business, arts, culture and technology, through to sport.... America, America, America.

You might as well go to Fox, ABC, or NBC; almostly exactly the same content.

The BBC is now a shameful shadow of itself. I will actively look elsewhere for a balanced British view.
