"Time for somebody else to take on this amazing festival - and for me to take my first summer holiday for 24 years…. But not before one more season." - Thus David Pickard telling followers on X of his intention to stand down as Director of the BBC Proms, a role he's held since November 2015.
David, 63 (St Alban's School and Corpus Christi, Cambridge) had a pre-uni-gig as ‘stationary-courier’ for the Royal Opera House, before more senior jobs at the ROH, with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and at Glyndebourne. It took the BBC 429 days to find him in 2014/15. Maybe Sam Jackson can recruit his replacement more quickly.
