Welsh pop

You have to be careful about comparisons, but it will feel odd within the BBC's Nations division (CEO Rhodri Talfan-Davies) that there's a public consultation on increasing hours of Welsh pop music service by two-and-a-half times - while elsewhere in the group, radio is being cut to fund online.

Odder still that the BBC expects "any increase in Radio Cymru 2’s audience will largely come from existing Radio Cymru listeners". Radio Cymru represents less than 3.5% of radio listening in Wales, which includes the listening for Radio Cymru 2, as RAJAR does not currently report separately on Radio Cymru 2’s audience figures.

By financial magic apparently unavailable to BBC Local Radio, moving from 25 hours a day to 61.5 hours a day costs licence fee payers an additional £10k a year (the first pass at this calculation showed a more believable £70k).
