A mixed picture for our speech networks. Radio 5 Live is up and Radio 4 down year-on-year (see previous post). BBC Local Radio reach in England is down 8.4% year on year, ahead of most of the new regional/All England output.
Radio Scotland's reach is up 9.5% year on year; Radio Cymru is down 22%; Radio Wales is up 7.7%, and Radio Ulster is up 6.4%.
Commercially, the core LBC UK is stable, year on year; TalkRadio is up 8.3%; TalkSport's main channel is up 11.2%. Times Radio will be disappointed by an 8.1% drop in reach, year on year, but heartened by a big growth in listening hours, up by 32%.
Adam Bowie has some interesting figures on the relationship between radio stations and podcasts in general. RAJAR say 26.7% of those surveyed said they'd listened to a podcast in the last month, compared with 25.9% last year. But the figure is higher when matched to some radio stations; 37.3% of Times Radio listeners have listened to a podcast in the past month (not necessarily from The Times group); next comes LBC with 31.7%, and Radio 4 with 31.3%). Speech radio cannibalising its audience ?
