We have a new Witchfinder General at Ofcom - Cristina Nicolotti Squires fills the gap left by Kevin Bakhurst, currently entrusted with doing less for less at RTE.
Cristina, c56, (Coloma Convent School, Croydon and BA Modern History and Politics, Durham) says she wanted to be a journalist from the age of eight, writing a newspaper once a month for relatives called Family Buzz; her father Aldo was news editor on the old London Evening News. On arrival at Durham, the student newspaper was being edited by Jeremy Vine; she survived that, and progressed to edit it herself.
She started out freelancing for Fleet Street papers, then in 1992 joined Thames' London News Network as news editor. A move to ITN followed in 1994, rising to edit News at Ten and 5News. She joined Sky News as director of content in 2017.
Sister Gisele works for BBC News. A recent piece of Nicolotti Squires advice...
When a big story breaks.. stand up . It looks like you are in charge and know what you are doing even if you don’t !
