Targets

Here's a more-gnomic-than-most bit of the June minutes of the BBC Board.

The Board discussed the annual review of audience performance against targets. Directors noted that it had been a strong year for iPlayer, which had met all of its key targets, and for weekly signed-in accounts, which had exceeded its targets. However, achieving targets for habitual usage in an extremely competitive market continued to prove challenging.

Usually, it's all pink on the map for 'BBC Targets'.  In 2021/22, the target of reaching 75-80% of UK 16-34s via BBC TV/iPlayer/Radio or Online Young every week was exceeded - at 81%.  No-one seems to have stepped the target up, and in 2022/23, the reach fell back to 76%.

In 2021/22, the weekly reach of signed-in accounts for BBC Sounds from under-35s was 0.57m, against a target of 0.6m+.  In 2022/23 the target was adjusted downwards, to 0.57-0.60, and bingo, the figure returned was  0.59m.

In 2021/22, the % of UK adults 16+ who used the BBC for 5+ days on average per week was 90%, against a target of 85-90%. In 2021/22, against an unchanged target, the figure was 88%.
