Ending in tiers

The Times suggests that former ITN executive John Hardie has handed in his homework, reviewing the BBC's social media guidelines, and that the BBC is considering what to to do about it.

According to The Times, Mr Hardie believes there should be a new tier of employee asked to abide by the strict guidelines currently observed, mostly, in BBC News. A churl would say this category is best defined as 'people like Gary Lineker'.  A source tells The Times “You will have to be more careful if you are an individual working on a show that is synonymous with the BBC brand, rather than if you just pop up once a year”.

The problem with this - you can be synonymous with the BBC, yet work for it very much at arm's length. A new condition would have to be written into contracts. And it doesn't help with local and regional presenters, only seen and heard on the BBC, yet not directly employed.
