India's Enforcement Directorate has registered a case against BBC India for alleged foreign exchange violations. It's called for documents and recorded statements from some company executives under provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act 1999 (FEMA).
In February, Indian income tax authorities said they uncovered irregularities in BBC accounts, after searching BBC offices in Mumbai and Delhi. The findings "indicate that tax has not been paid on certain remittances which have not been disclosed as income in India by the foreign entities of the group".
