During the height of l'affaire Lineker, BBC DG Tim Davie opined "Let's be clear, we've got the best sports broadcaster in the world, we want to make sure that he can come back on air, we work together to make that happen....."
An interested party submitted a Freedom of Information enquiry: "Kindly provide all data, evidence, and materials upon which Mr. Davie relied in formulating the declaration that "we've got the best sports broadcaster in the world"?’
The BBC has wriggled thus "Please be advised that the Freedom of Information Act gives a general right of access to all types of recorded information held by public authorities. This is not a request for recorded information, and we are not required to create new information to respond to a request, or give a judgement or opinion that is not already recorded."
