Alan 'Wavey' Davey, CBE, has decided that Salford is a journey too far, that reporting to Lorna Clarke is simply lèse-majesté, and is stepping down as Controller Radio 3 and The Proms at the end of the financial year, when he will be 63. At the end of last month, a column in The Spectator said speech programmes on the network were threatened with the axe to make savings (for 'world class digital').
The BBC Media Centre valedictory says "During his tenure, Alan has increased and stabilised Radio 3’s audience at over two million weekly listeners." Just.
