Case load

I don't personally know the rights and wrongs of the employment tribunal case Saleem Patka brought against the BBC, but the headlines chosen by the Mail Online highlight the claim, rather than the real news - that it was rejected.

"Senior BBC editor who previously claimed ethnic minority staff are paid less than their white colleagues says bosses put Afghan staff's lives at risk when Taliban swept to power".

The element that might not have been present in other companies: Saleem Patka is still there, after a tribunal case started back in 2016, over claims over discrimination in pay levels, rejected in 2018.

Belated 23/01/23 update: Saleem tells me that his ET case from 2016 was not rejected. "There was an appeal about a specific element of my case which was rejected by the Employment Appeals Tribunal in 2018, but my case as a whole continued and was settled by the BBC in 2019."
