The world of podcasting loves big numbers. Spotify recently announced that there were 4.4m podcasts on its platform.
But how many are active ? This blog, partly powered by the excellent James Cridland, reveals that only 155,764 of these podcasts has over ten episodes AND has produced at least one episode in the past ten days. Only 3.9% of Spotify's catalogue meets that requirement.
Nothing, of course, wrong with series that have made their point, and are worth visiting and re-visiting. But it's not quite the high volume business that the headline figure suggests....
