Emily Maitlis' attack on Sir Robbie Gibb as a 'Conservative agent' on the BBC Board has provoked an interesting revelation from James Purnell

He says that in June 2020, Tim Davie, then merely CEO BBC Studios, but appointed DG in waiting, offered him an unspecified role which would have included a seat on the Executive Board. Mr Purnell says that the non-executives at the time blocked the appointment - just a month after the Maitlis/Newsnight/Cummings intro kerfuffle - because they were worried about the advancement of a former Labour politician.

The Board at that time was led by Sir David Clementi, and the non-execs were Sir Nicolas Serota, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Shirley Garrood and Ian Hargreaves.

Does this mean that Purnell was Tim's first choice as Director of Content ?
