Can some of our more senior political correspondents explain to the country that nearly half of the Conservative MPs seeking election as leader absolutely know they have no chance ? They are seeking to win preferment much later in the game, ideally in the next Cabinet, by 'trading' their handful of votes to other candidates in the early knock-out rounds.
