Leaving the house

The giant butterfly of broadcasting, the hardest working woman in showbiz, Vanessa Feltz, is leaving Radio 2 and Radio London at the end of August. She started on Radio London in 2001, moving to the breakfast show in 2016. Bob Shennan brought her to the Radio 2 early slot in 2011.

Vanessa earned something over £400k from the BBC last year. Indeed, the rise in her earnings over the past ten years has mirrored the BBC's need to 'level up' male and female top presenter pay. Whilst it's entirely rational for someone over sixty to move away from the pressures of early starts, it can't be hard for both radio stations to fill the gaps more cheaply, in an organisation hunting down £285m savings per year.
