Press Gazette has secured at least one decent piece of information out of BBC News about their plans for a 'new News channel" - 70 jobs will close in London, with 20 being created in Washington.
The official release is as clear as mud. There'll be a simulcast of the Nicky Campbell show on 5Live for UK viewers - 0900-1100. Jake Kanter at The Times has been told the current roster of 19 presenters will be cut to five in London, with another anchor based in Washington. There will also be eight correspondents who present and report. As now, some broadcasting will come from Singapore.
There's a half-hearted plan to have a sort of UK News Lifeboat team, who sit around not far from BH, and run at the sound of a bell to deliver major UK stories probably ten minutes at least behind competitors. All coming from April next year. PANTS.
- 1745 Update: Another 10 jobs go in Newsgathering/News Content, cos there's only one channel to support.
