BBC HR has swiftly moved to set up additional support for staff flummoxed by the plans for a single News channel and other impenetrable announcements about 'Digital First'. It's a chance to hear from Karen Peek, one of BBC News' Safety, Security and Resilience Specialists, voted one of 2021's 'Unsung Heroes' by her colleagues.
The citation: "Karen has ... provided immeasurable support to news staff during the pandemic. Their concerns were met with compassion as well as practical support. Karen also supported staff in response to the complexities of government pressures on our operations in China and Hong Kong. In February, she was part of the incident management team in response to the military coup in Myanmar, and most recently, she was instrumental in our response to the crisis in Afghanistan and subsequent evacuation of staff."
For these new sessions, "You’ll be able to discuss your feelings and reactions to the announcements, and hear about strategies to help you look after your own wellbeing during these changes". Whether Karen can help with the uncertainty of a half-formed idea, poorly expressed, is another matter....
