Promises, promises

Who's made what promises to whom ? Jon Sopel's news that he's leaving Washington (he was appointed there under the James Harding regime) and taking a year off seems to have shaken an autumnal tree, producing speculation to The Guardian's Jim Waterson about the future moves of Laura Kuenssberg, Sarah Smith and Jon himself.

Has Laura Kuenssberg been promised a Today presenter slot, perhaps by James Harding when he appointed her political editor ?  Which gig next would permit Jon Sopel to write more books - Today or BBC Political Editor ?  Is someone nudging Sarah Smith towards Washington, to keep the pieces moving ?

Crikey, it's almost as if someone's got their hands on the top team's job preferences....
