The Borrowers

Whilst Nadine Dorries still has her foot on the neck of the public service wing of the BBC, Chancellor Rishi Sunak is allowing the commercial wing, BBC Studios, to acquire more debt. It will rise from its current limit of £350m to a new top level of £750m by 2027. It's more than BBC money man Glyn Isherwood asked for when he appeared in front of the Public Accounts Committee in March - he wanted a cap of £500m, but the speed of the rise may be an issue.

A BBC spokesperson said “This is a vote of confidence in the BBC as a great British success story – and will see more inward investment and creation of more jobs in the UK creative sector.”
