The scale of the Newsbeat 'problem' may have been under-estimated. The 75% of existing staff rejecting a move to a new base in Birmingham is calculated AFTER discounting those who didn't fancy the preference exercise at all and decided to take voluntary redundancy way back in May.
On the first Zoom meeting after this element of restructuring was announced, News boss Fran Unsworth was asked if, having exhausted the preference exercise (three choices), staff would then be still able to choose voluntary redundancy. Those in the meeting say the answer was completely unclear - and this may be coming home to roost.
It's like a comedy plotline from W1A, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteAs usual, the Beeb inept in these matters.
We've been here before, with other departments.
